Funky Scarf!

Here's some better pictures of the funky scarf, I'll let you figure out which ones are meant to show off the color and which are there to show the detail....

My beautiful scarf plus goodies which included snowflake bath fizzies (I love me some bath time!) and a little notebook/pen set which is perfectly purse size.
Thanks again Cathy, you rock!

Funktified!

New pad visit continued, AKA random things to mention regarding last weekend's trip. First off, as knitters you can appreciate my joy when I spotted not one but two items I made for the couple... Green scarf on the coat rack was for hubby last Christmas and the blue & pink blanket was a housewarming gift for wifey when she first moved into her old apartment - and yes those colors matched the place!

Here's JJ modeling how to use the blanket after she caught me taking pictures of her coat rack.
Sunday afternoon we took a walk around her new town and found a yarn shop/ antique store (what a fabulous idea!). I was so excited to find that they had 3 different yarns in the window that would have been perfect for my funky scarf exchange pal but sadly, the store was closed :-(

Ahh, last Tuesday Chris helped me with the whole knitting two socks on two circulars thing because I just couldn't get it started (it was too tight for me to get the needle through). Today, the socks look exactly as you see them here. They are on my to-do list :-)
Before I sent my funky scarf off I wanted to add some beading to help jazz it up a bit. I kept playing with different things to do to it but I was stumped. I brought it to knitting where some of the gals helped me layout a few pattern options which seemed very promising. But when I got home I realized none of them would work because the V's on each end of the scarf faced in different directions which meant it wouldn't looked balanced. I decided to just add a few clusters on each of the three corners and call it a night (I'll make myself nuts with stuff like that).
Then on Friday I got my funky scarf packed up and sent out to my pal (I accidentally had the stitch markers under the paper for the photo shoot- duh. And don't even get me started on how I had to re-wrap it because I couldn't fit it in the box and I ended up totally messing up the tissue paper). Anyway, she got it yesterday and seemed very happy with it which makes me happy.
And then today I came home from knitting to find MY funky scarf waiting for me!
It's absolutely beautiful and totally my style. The colors are warm reds, oranges, browns and green (Where was this yarn when I was looking for something to use for my pal?). I took a few pictures but of course blogger said I can't share them with you yet. I think it's being picky because it knows I need to take the pictures in natural light in order to properly show it off. Hopefully tomorrow I can re-shoot it and then finally post some pictures.
Thank you Cathy once again it's truly fabulous!

Funky Enough?

The other night I finished one of my two attempts at a funky scarf. It still needs to be washed and blocked but you get the general idea. I don't want to reveal too much information about my pal in case she's cruising blogs, but the two scarves below are my best attempts at suiting her likes and needs.

I like the second scarf because it's lighter and shinier, I think the ribbon yarn just has more personality. But I love the funky shape of the first scarf and the gradual color changes, even so, it seems a bit bland to me. I'm thinking it may just need some small beads to catch the light or some gold thread weaved through. Errr, I wish I could share my pals details so I could get a better idea of what to do, but I have faith. Eventually the right one will reveal itself, I guess it'll just be a fun surprise for me as well!

What does this picture have to do with my dilemma? Nothing at all, I just happened to spot a bee and a spider sharing some space on one of the blooming fall flowers and thought I'd share the moment with you.

Funky Scarf Q&A

1.Are you allergic to any fibers?
That wonderful 100% alpaca yarn seems to make me red and itchy - - and therefore sad. I can handle plain old wool or blends.

2.Do you prefer any fibers over others?
For a scarf, pretty much anything that's soft and/or warm. Nothing too itchy. I'm not anti-acrylic but of course who doesn't enjoy the fancy stuff?

3.Thinking back to Scout’s post about what funky means to you, post an image of something that you think is funky!
Posting a "funky" imagine will take a little brainstorming on my part. Basically, to me, funky is anything off the beaten path. It doesn't have to be as extreme as say Betsey Johnson's wardrobe, it just needs to be unique in some way. Something with a little kitsch or edge to it. Something fun, youthful (in the mind not body), original.

4.Would you prefer funky yarn or a funky pattern?
Oh let it be a surprise! Go with whatever moves you :-)

5.What are your favorite colors?
Earth tones or jeweled colors (deep reds, blues, purples).

6.What is your favorite piece of art?
Hmmm, not sure about this one, I'll have to get back to you

7.What colors would you never have up close to your pretty face?
Yellows and oranges are not so great for me, I'm fairly pale with medium/dark brown hair

8.Would you prefer an actual scarf or a cowl?
Scarf. I don't own a cowl but I think it's because I'd never use it; long hair plus static, it's just too high maintenance

9.When you wear a scarf do you prefer a wider/shorter scarf or a thin/long scarf?
Doesn't matter, I like to mix it up. If it's an every day, keep me warm in the winter scarf I usually go for something on the wider side that's not too long. Basically something that won't be too bulky under my coat. If it's a just for fun scarf then it doesn't matter.

10.What is the climate like where you live?
I'm in Jersey, so I get every kind of weather possible (the scarf will never be too warm)

11.Would you prefer a functional scarf (to keep you warm) or one just to funk-up your wardrobe?
Either's fine with me

12.What else would you like your partner to know about you?
I'm not into big bobbles, eyelash yarn, crazy extra's. A small amount of metallic yarn, some small beads, little decorations are more my style. I like the yarns fun colors or interesting pattern be the thing that stands out.
Oh, and coats! I usually wear either a lime green or darkish red coat in the fall and a black one in the winter. Can't promise I won't buy any other's but thought it may help to know. (don't worry about having to match any of that, just thought I'd share in case it may help you).
